The Atherstone Recorder is a free community newspaper based in
Atherstone , North Warwickshire UK.
Atherstone is a market town with a rich history. Situated on the ancient Roman Watling St. It was famous at one time for it’s production of Hats. Every conceivable type and shape of headgear was produced and exported worldwide.
With the demise in the wearing of such headgear the town moved on to other industries. It was at one time a coal mining community, the mines closed down however in the Thatcherite era. Due to it’s unique geographical position at the heart of the UK motorway system Atherstone industry now centres around distribution, with several major companies having their logistic hubs in and around the borough.
